Many Christians wonder if it is alright to let their kids go “trick-or-treating.” They tend to think of it as “The Devil’s Holiday” or a night of evil spirits or something like that.
Actually, Halloween originates from Christianity. There is a lot on Wikipedia about it, but I’m not going to go into all of that right now.
So is it alright? Is it a sin? If you are wondering these things you probably haven’t heard my latest sermon, but that’s alright – I forgive you. Here are a few Scriptures to keep in mind while making this decision.
- 1 Corinthians 8 (Yes, the whole thing – don’t worry, it’s short.)
- 1 Corinthians 10:23-31
- Romans 14:14-23
If you read nothing else of the above, please read this:
Romans 14:23 (NLT) “But if you have doubts about whether or not you should eat something, you are sinning if you go ahead and do it. For you are not following your convictions. If you do anything you believe is not right, you are sinning.”
