In one of Jesus’ shortest parables about the Kingdom, He speaks of a merchant who was looking for “choice pearls” (Matthew 13:45-46 NLT), and when he “discovered a pearl of great value” he sold all that he had so he could purchase it. This one always eluded me… See, I was always told to not put all of my eggs in one basket, but that’s not a Kingdom principle.
Today, however, Holy Spirit showed me what it means (or at least what He needed me to get from it today): the greater the value you see in the Kingdom, the more you will sacrifice to have a greater degree of it – to be a part of it, to live in it, to represent it, to manifest it.
To consider the sacrifice discussed here to be merely monetary or giving up a particular “sin” would be doing the Storyteller an atrocious disservice – it’s deeper than all of that… It’s a matter of the heart. As He said in Matthew 6:21, “Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.”
We all have a decision to make: What is the Kingdom worth to me and how much will I sacrifice to acquire it?
