The Patience of the Father

In the parable of the Prodigal Son, I see the father walk his son out after gathering his share of the inheritance he should get upon his father’s death. I see him walking away, ignoring his father’s last “I love you” and not hearing his offer for a place to call home should he need it. I see the father watch his son leaving, probably in total disbelief, and then sitting down on the porch… and not moving an inch until he sees his son once again as a dot on the horizon.
